Memorial Day
Annual Celebration
Join us each Memorial Day for a service at Walnut Grove Cemetery immediately following the Worthington Memorial Day Parade. Your presence is warmly welcomed as we pay tribute to those who have served and sacrificed for our nation.
Annually, Worthington American Legion Post 239 orchestrates one of Ohio's largest Memorial Day parades, commencing at Morning Street's American Legion Post 239 and concluding at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Originated by the Daughters of the American Revolution, the parade has been hosted by the Legion since 1919. Following the parade, a service unfolds at the Circle of Honor within the Cemetery's Ceremonial Mound, dedicated in 2010 by Dr. Robert Chosy, a Cemetery Trustee.
On Memorial Day, the Cemetery Staff places flags at each of the more than 1,500 Veterans' graves, featuring flag holders denoting their respective wars or periods of service. Spanning from the War of 1812 to the Persian Gulf War, Walnut Grove commemorates a diverse range of Veterans. Post 239's annual ceremony includes music, the Worthington High School Band, an honor guard with a 21-gun salute, speakers, and bagpipers.
The Trustees and Staff extend an invitation to join this yearly event, honoring those who've served and safeguarded the freedom enjoyed by all.
